Hopefully over the last few posts, about deposit bonuses, I have convinced you of a few things:

1. You need to be earning a deposit bonus whilst playing poker.
2. That you should always deposit the maximum.
3. Not all deposit bonuses are the same.

Perhaps the key point is that not all deposit bonuses are the same. In fact some can be up to five times better than others.

I took a look at all the deposit bonuses offered by the main online poker rooms to wok out which were the best. In my opinion the best ones are the ones that are the easiest to earn.

I worked out how much of the money you pay the online poker room is returned to you as a bonus payment.

The top online poker rooms were Ladbrokes Poker and VC Poker who return 67.5% of the money you pay them in bonus payments.

The worst online poker room is CD Poker which only returns 12.5% of the money you pay them in bonus payments.

The Difference Between Deposit Bonuses. Post 4 of 6

Even though a lot of deposit bonuses appear alike they are often drastically different.

For instance, at Absolute Poker you get a 100% deposit bonus up to $500. You will have 60 days to complete the bonus and it will be released to you in increments of $5. For every dollar of rake that you pay you will earn 1 Point. As 6 Points are worth a dollar you have to pay $6 in rake to earn $1 of your bonus. So you are getting 16.7% of your rake returned in the form of a bonus.

At Ladbrokes Poker they appear to offer exactly the same deposit bonus: 100% up to $500. You again have 60 days to complete the bonus and it is released to you in increments of $10. For every dollar of rake you pay you will earn 20 Player Points. As 30 Player Points are worth a dollar you have to pay $1.50 in rake to earn $1 of your bonus. So you are getting 67.5% of your rake returned.

There is therefore a massive difference between the Ladbrokes Poker offer and the Absolute Poker offer despite the fact that they appear to be the same. You will earn your Ladbrokes Poker deposit bonus almost four times quicker!

Why you Should always Deposit the Maximum. Post 3 of 6

Hopefully I’ve convinced you over the last two posts that deposit bonuses are worth having. If you’re still unsure please go back and read through the last few posts again.

Before I suggest where you should be playing poker let me just explain why I feel you should always deposit the maximum.

If a site offers you a 100% bonus up to $500 I seriously recommend you should think about putting $500 into your account. Firstly it’s a one time offer. If you deposit $100 to start with and then $400 later your bonus is still only $100.

If you think you’re a winning poker player and won’t need to deposit that much into your account you should still put the maximum on. You can always withdraw your money later – you can’t get a bigger bonus later. Remember: winning poker players make the most out of every situation.

If you’re a losing poker player, or a new player, you may feel reluctant to deposit a lot of money onto an online poker room. However, remember this is a real way of minimizing your losses so deposit as much as you can afford to. Ultimately you can always withdraw excess funds at a later date.

Why you need a Deposit Bonus. Post 2 of 6

This is the second post in my series on deposit bonuses and in the post I'm going to explain why a deposit bonus is so important.

If you currently play at an online poker room and are not earning any kind of bonus from them, then you need to join a new online poker room. You are literally “throwing money away” and paying almost double for your game of poker as a new player on their site! Is that fair?

Just to be clear, the deposit bonus is essential for someone who plays online poker regularly. It means you’re getting a lot of the money, that you pay the online poker room, back. You’re not actually getting free money more a refund or discount on your rake. But it is still money you won’t get if you’ve been at your online poker room for too long and are not receiving any bonuses.

If you’re a losing poker player a good deposit bonus will help you to lose less or perhaps break even. If you’re a break even poker player a deposit bonus will put you into profit. Finally, if you’re a winning player anyway, think of it as a way to make more money. Winning poker players look for every opportunity to make the most amount of money out of every situation. Don’t miss this opportunity.

What is a Deposit Bonus? Post: 1 of 6

I intend to write a series of 6 posts focusing mainly on deposit bonuses. In this first post I'm going to take a look at what a deposit bonus is.

A deposit bonus is an incentive to get you to join a new online poker room. For example: a 100% up to $500 deposit bonus is a common offer by many of the top online poker rooms. What this means is that however much you first deposit, up to and including $500, you will get the same amount as a bonus.

Let’s assume you deposit $500 (and I always recommend you deposit the maximum for reasons I’ll explain later) you will then have a $500 deposit bonus. It won’t be awarded to you straight away (so don’t spend it yet); you’re actually going to have to earn it. This entire deposit bonus is in fact simply just a promise to pay you back $500 of your own money. However, don’t be put off by that, it’s still great news for you.

The rate at which you play poker and the stakes you play for will determine how quickly your deposit bonus is released. The bonus is, in most cases, paid to you in increments (often $10 or $20 at a time). How much you have to play to release your deposit bonus will depend on the online poker room in question.

For example at Full Tilt Poker you’ll earn $4.20 of your bonus for every $10 in rake you pay. So $47.60 in rake will unlock $20 of your bonus. What this means is that you’re getting 42% of your rake back. That is a massive discount!

Carbon Poker - Bad Player Fest!

I recently wrote a post on why I consider Betfair Poker to be the best online poker room for finding bad players.

This had to do with the fact that it is primarily a sports book and that a lot of the players come across from the sports book and know little or nothing about poker- great news for you.

It was pointed out to me however that Betfair Poker is not available to US players. So where should US players play?

The Best Poker Room - Full Tilt?

Everyone has their own favourite online poker room - mine is Full Tilt Poker.

Having played on almost all of the poker networks I've experienced pretty much every format of online poker room there is on offer. They all have their faults but they also all have a unique feature that I wish was standard at every online poker room. An example of this could be just having your folded cards displayed somewhere on the screen without having to browse through the history or hover over your avatar.

As far as I'm concerned Full Tilt has great software with lots of great features and very few faults. It's also pleasant on the eyes and when you end up staring at it all day it helps if it looks good. Features such as the hand history are very useful allowing me to review a hand and see what was shown down in a graphical way rather than reading through a text hand history.

It's a busy poker room which is important for me as I don't want to be waiting around all day for a $100 sit 'n go to get going. It has great tournaments that run regularly and have large prize pools.

There's also a high chance you might end up sitting at the same table as one of Full Tilt's many professional players. And if you'd like to see the biggest cash games online you can watch players such as Phil Ivey sitting down with $250,000 at the cash tables. Trust me it's well worth watching.

Ultimately it's a highly polished online poker room and one I enjoy playing at.

$5400 Earnt in One Deposit Bonus

I wrote an article for my website www.poker-bible.com about how I earnt $5400 from one deposit bonus at Hollywood Poker. For the full article on this deposit bonus example click here.

In summary, I deposited $500 at Hollywood Poker to receive a massive $5000 bonus. The bonus also included an iPod Shuffle and a $300 + $20 “Big Deal Ticket" making the bonus worth $5400.

After completing the bonus I took a look at how my profits had been affected by the extra $5400:

Without taking the bonus into account I had earnt a profit of $12,968 ,earning an average hourly wage of $51.87.

With the bonus I had increased my profits by 41.8% from $12,968 to $18,388. It also took my hourly wage from $51.87 to $73.55.

This example shows clearly how important deposit bonuses are. Whenever I play online poker and I’m not earning any form of bonus, I am losing money. The Hollywood Poker example shows this clearly. If I had been playing poker at an online poker room where I wasn’t earning a deposit bonus I would have earnt $5400 less, making my hourly wage $22 less!
